SERGEANT AT ARMS CARSON PUETZ

How long have you been a member of Toastmasters? I joined in September of 2019.

Why did you first join Toastmaster? A multitude of reasons. However, the main reasons were to enhance my career prospects and work on my presentation skills.

What is your favorite part about our Pace Setters Club? Being part of a like-minded, yet a very diverse, group of individuals who motivate me, support me and challenge me to better.

What have you learned/gained from being a part of Toastmasters? I have learned to become a lot more comfortable at giving and receiving feedback during the evaluations portion of the meeting. It can be very awkward for many of us to receive both positive and constructive evaluations of our speeches. By participating in PaceSetters meetings on a regular basis have become more comfortable and even somewhat embraced the evaluations portion of our meetings.

Outside of Toastmasters, how do you spend your time? I am a big sports guy who loves playing hockey. My family and I are avid CFL football fans and we have season tickets to Calgary Stampeders games. When I am not currently studying, preparing speeches, or involved in sports I enjoy reading science fiction novels and playing board games with my friends.

What would you tell someone who’s interested in Toastmasters? Give it a shot! You have nothing to lose by experiencing a new club such as Pace Setters. It can improve your resume and increase your network. However, I believe the most important thing you will take away from our club is what you will learn about yourself and the confidence you will gain from it.
